Comics Between Generation Z and Public Libraries
Abstract
The paper examines the relationship between Generation Z, comics, and public libraries. The starting point is the thesis that members of the so-called Generation Z are interested in reading literature that they can easily identify with, and that has the characteristics of hypertext. It is believed that, at the level of discourse, comics meet the above criteria. To confirm the assumptions, an informative survey was conducted in elementary schools in the municipality of Žabalj, focusing on the reading habits of seventh- and eighth-grade students. The survey results showed that this category of users prefers to read comics in their free time. The conclusion is that public libraries could enlarge their comic book collections for young people and attract a larger number of readers of this age through planned acquisition.
