Izvestija o učenih delah by Zaharija Orfelin – Bibliographical elements in the final chapter of Slaveno-serbskij magazin

Abstract

The paper discusses the last chapter of the prominent magazine Slaveno-serbskij magazin, one of the greatest Works of the Serbian englightenment, written by Zaharija Orfelin. According to some authors, its last chapter, entitled „Izvestija o učenih delah” (Report on learned works), represents the first Serbian bibliography. Our paper examines the validity of this claim, through a detailed content analysis of the chapter. The focus lies upon identification of bibliographical elements, without neglecting, however, the importance of Orfelin’s educational tendencies and motives when writing „Izvestija“, as well as Slaveno-serbskij magazin in whole. The secondary, broader aim of the paper is to highlight the importance to Orfelin’s work in general, in this year, when the 300th anniversary of his birth is to be celebrated.
