The Importance of Digital Libraries in Encouraging
Independent Learning in a Multimedia Environment

Summary

The paper examines changes in pedagogical and educational processes caused by the emergence of modern digital technologies, which have encouraged the gradual transition from traditional to multimedia teaching. It also deals with the importance of digital libraries in providing information services for independent learning in a multimedia environment, especially at a time of the COVID-19 pandemic. The multimedia environment is analyzed as very stimulating for the development of competencies for independent and lifelong learning – a prerequisite for the progress of any democratically organized society, and the role of digital libraries, which act in accordance with the principles of open access to information.
