The Bookmarker App:
my e-reading diary: librarians’ experiences

Summary

The paper focuses on researching the implementation of the application „Bookmark: My E-Reading Diary” within the context of a multidisciplinary project conducted in five public libraries in Serbia. The primary topic is how libraries facilitate users’ access to digital content through new technologies and digital tools. The „Bookmark” app accelerates access to information and encourages the social dimension of reading, thereby promoting cultural and educational inclusiveness. The methodological framework is based on an empirical analysis of librarians’ experiences, focusing on indicators of successful implementation. The research examines the development and application of the „Bookmark” platform in four public libraries (Čačak, Kraljevo, Leskovac and Sombor) as successful models of using modern technologies in libraries’ operations. Respondents identified financial resources as a significant issue in the app’s development. Despite this, libraries are ready to face the challenges of the digital age, even though they encounter limitations such as a lack of financial and human resources and technological expertise. Reading apps offer numerous advantages, including access to digital titles, sharing impressions, and connecting with other readers. The conclusion is that libraries that integrate digital resources, such as mobile apps and advanced websites, significantly improve access to remote reading and provide continuous information to users in local communities. The „Bookmark” project clearly shows that libraries must adopt the latest technological innovations to enhance access to their information sources for a broader reading and user population.
