Non-book Materials in the Matica Srpska Library: from the Basis to COBISS
|
Summary
This paper deals with the presence of non-book materials items in the holdings of the Matica Srpska Library. The Special Collections
section in the Matica Srpska Library acquires, preserves and catalogues non-book materials since the foundation of the Matica Srpska.
The first document of this type is Osnov (1826), which contains signatures of the seven Serbs from Budapest who were the founders
of the Matica Srpska. The archival documents containing the first Constitution of the Matica Srpska, together with other manuscripts,
letters and photographs make the Matica Srpska Archive. After the initial document, Osnov, the Matica Srpska, together with its library,
continued to collect prospects, posters, maps and printed music scores in order to make them available to the public. The paper is
focused on work of the Matica Srpska Library after 1959, since when the activities on preservation and presentation of non-book
materials are being continuously done in this cultural institution. Since the mid eighties of the 20
th
century unconventional library
materials are organized in four funds: art, geographic, music and collection of minor documentary material. Nowadays these materials
are being cataloged in the N mask of the COBISS software package.
