The Book and Reading Promotion Program „One Book, One City”

Summary
„One Book, One City” is the name of a very popular book and reading promotion program held in the United States of America. It was designed and first realized in 1998, in the Public Library in Seattle, and then further developed in the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress in Washington DC. It aims to gather community members around the selected title and encourage social dialogue on important topics that the book offers. Statistics show that as many as 50% of the local population passes through the library within four weeks, as a variety of activities organized on the basis of selected books usually lasts. The Public Programs Office of the American Library Association published a guide for organizing this action as a resource and aid for work intended for librarians around the world. The Public Library of Pančevo accepted the program and realized it in 2008, being the first in Serbia to do it. The Public Library of Vršac joined it in 2011.
