The Process of Synthesis of the Entities and Relationships
in the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records Model

Summary
The Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records, FRBR, is a conceptual model that establishes entities and relationships between them, as the key objects of interest to users of bibliographic data. The entities have been divided into three groups. FRBRization is a process of synthesis of these entities and relationships between them using existing records. This paper presents a model data object that represents the first group of the FRBR entities. It brings description in more details of conceptual FRBR model defined in three groups of entities, and introduces the object FRBR model. The term of FRBRization is explained in more details, covering also its main goals. The central part of the paper is a proposal for linking UNIMARC bibliographic records in the form of XML documents with the FRBR object data model. In a similar way, bibliographic records formed in other formats may be linked. The paper also discusses potential FRBRization in Serbian libraries.
