Summary
This paper aims to identify problems in the system of funding projects of digitization of library material. It is based on an analysis of publicly accessible information, published by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, regarding the results of open competitions for funding projects in the library and information field and protection of old and rare library material. The analysis reveals that, in the period from 2012 to 2014, the digitization projects have got less and less percentage of budget funds. The reason for this situation lies in the overall concept of submitted projects, as well as in their focus on purchasing new equipment for digitization instead on establishing new services and contents through digitization. The author concludes that certain changes in the current system of funding are essential for making step forward from the existing situation, as well as the change in general approach to digitization by librarians in Serbia. Both are achievable through evaluation of the projects accepted for funding and organizing libraries in consortia.
