Educational Digital Tutorials for Users of the Library
of the Cultural Center ”Student City”
|
Summary
Libraries have recognized promoting information literacy as a new chance to show the world that the skills which they have
been nurturing and promoting for centuries are still needed for the Information Age. Some of those skills include efficient
information search, evaluation of information and use of information in ethical manner. The Library of the Cultural Center
”Student City” is situated within the Student City in New Belgrade and its users are students of all faculties and colleges in
Belgrade. Due to a lack of adequate teaching space, librarians who work in this Library started teaching their users the skills
of information literacy through the Library website, by creating specialized digital tutorials. The three digital tutorials are
presented in this article: Introduction to Information Search, Tutorial for Evaluating Information and Tutorial for Citing
Information, which help users to learn the most effective ways to search information, to evaluate information sources, and to
comprehend the necessity of adequate citing intellectual sources as well as the obligation to respect intellectual property. An
increasing number of users visiting the Library website shows that the Library of the Cultural Center ”Student City” is on the
right track, since the students need the information literacy skills which are being taught there. The Library of the Cultural
Center ”Student City” will strengthen the influence on its users by greater presence on the social networks and by creating
more advanced and interactive digital tutorials.
