Section of Museum Librarians of Serbian Museum Association
|
Summary
This paper presents the Section of Museum Librarians of the Serbian Museum Association, and the Association itself. The author discusses the issue of museum libraries in the context of unresolved status of special libraries in our country. They depend, to a great extent, on the goodwill and understanding of directors of organizations within which they are located and operate. The employees, as a rule, have a university degree in the field related to the museums’ collections. Their work is marginalized, compared to the primary occupations of professionals engaged in jobs related to these collections. This causes frequent personnel changes in museum libraries, so it is difficult to maintain the necessary professional level of employees and their continuous education. Members of the Section endeavor to overcome these problems. They work with great enthusiasm and solidarity, cooperate with colleagues in public, school, academic and special libraries and participate in activities of professional bodies and committees, trying to improve their position by changing legislative solutions and bylaws.
