Efficient Teamwork with Kanban: Experience of the University Library ”Svetozar Marković”
|
Summary
Libraries exist in a world where responding to changes is priority if an institution strives to be competitive on the business market. Libraries have to meet the needs of end users and provide products and services to satisfy them as this is considered the most important result and assessment criteria. Agile processes were developed from the need to manage complex and risky projects which demand quick adaptation and response to changes. This paper portrays characteristics of agile management and the two currently most popular agile methodologies — Kanban and Scrum. It presents the main characteristics of both, compares them and suggests how they can be implemented together. Such approach, which combines both methods, is called Scrumban. In the paper, use of the project management tool called Trello is described in detail. This tool is completely based on the Kanban principle but the Scrum methodology can be successfully implemented in the work processes which use this tool. Finally, the paper explains how a relatively traditional work environment can freshen up and become more productive with the use of an agile technology, on the example of using Trello in the University Library Svetozar Marković.
