Public Libraries in Bulgaria

Summary

This article presents Bulgarian library infrastructure which is well developed and provides library and information services on a territorial basis. It also shows the legal framework which regulates activities of the public libraries network, as well as the specific nature of different types of public libraries, the National Library Saints Cyril and Methodius in the first place, and then regional, municipal and libraries of community centers. The public community centers have historically been identified as a typical Bulgarian model, which has its positive social reflection in the modern information society as well.

Резюме

В статията е представена българската библиотечна инфраструктура, която осигурява библиотечно информационно обслужване на териториален и отраслов принцип. Направена е характеристика на нормативната база, регламентираща дейността на мрежата от обществени библиотеки. Диференцирано са изведени спецификите на видовете обществени библиотеки, като на право място е Националната библиотека „Св. Св. Кирил и Методий“, следвана от регионалните, общинските и читалищните библиотеки. Народните читалища, са откроени в исторически план като типично български модел, който има своите положителни обществени рефлексии и в съвременното информационно общество.
