International and Regional Associations in Library and Information Science Profession
Summary
The paper gives a brief overview of some of the well known associations and organizations engaged in connecting professionals
in the field of library and information science, as well as examples of their good practices. International cooperation plays an
important role in exchange of necessary information. Sharing experiences, ideas and ways of solving problems that librarians
are facing, establishment of international contacts and their strengthening, as well as joint participation in projects are
the main motives for networking of librarians with colleagues from abroad. The work includes the following organizations:
IFLA - International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, UNESCO - United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organization, ALA - American Library Association, EBLIDA - European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation
Associations, OCLC - Online Computer Library Center, ЕIFL - Electronic Information for Libraries, CENL Conference of European
National Librarians, LIBER - Ligue des Bibliothèques Européennes de Recherche, SLA - Special Libraries Association.
