Library, Media and Information Literacy of Secondary School Graduates
Summary
The use of information and communication technologies is an important segment of life of secondary school pupils. Unfortunately, their use does not imply developed media and information literacy. During the daily work with users in the Public Library of Užice, it has been observed that a large number of pupils does not search electronic library catalogues and databases that provide reliable sources of information. In order to get them motivated, the library has created and carried out the project Find and Use the Information with the aim to raise awareness of the importance of information among the primary and secondary school graduates and their teachers. The project was financially supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia in 2014. In addition to training, the project also included a survey. The graduates had to answer a number of questions about the use of additional literature in their daily learning (not required by the curriculum, both printed and electronic), about their knowledge of media, searching the internet and the use of electronic library and information resources.
