Serbian Library Association Launches into Changes


Summary
Library associations must often deal with the challenge of remaining relevant to retain the current membership and to attract new members. In order to strenghten profession through development, promotion and quality services, and integrate it with leadership, advocacy and mutual understanding, every professional association has to determine the needs and expectations of its members, ensure that they are met, and engage with them to discuss issues of professional significance. This evidence-based research discovers the librarians’ opinions and reviews of the Serbian Library Association’s (SLA) performance. The primary target groups were SLA members and non-member library professionals. The qualitative and quantitative data had been collected via online survey from 113 examinees throughout the two months period. The revisions and evaluations of the present portfolio of services, communication, organization structure, goals and policies, placed the focus of the survey analysis on identity, key professional competencies, support, innovation and changes that need to be reconsidered and redesigned. Effective organisations are confident about their role. Also, they have a clear sense of the direction that will help them grow and adapt to the changing environment. Discoveries from this research can help navigate the future SLA performance and consider the new strategies that will ensure sustainability and help SLA serve as a benchmark to other organizations. A well-designed strategic plan, as the most significant aftermath of this research, should assist the Serbian Library Association set its future course and determine the management processes required to achieve its goals.
