Basic presumptions and principles of digital librarianship economy
Summary
Digital libraries, as a vast segment of the creative economy, are gaining more and more importance thanks to the
new and unique services they provide in meeting educational, research and cultural needs. The subject of this paper
is the study and analysis of the economic aspects of the development of digital librarianship. Financial sustainability
and the choice of mechanisms for covering costs and pricing services represent the main challenges of creating
cost-effective business models in this area. For the long-term economic sustainability of digital libraries, the positive
effects of cooperation with other organizations are particularly significant, such as the joint use of various resources
as a necessary prerequisite for reducing service prices and total costs. In addition, the paper presents five basic
models of digital library business, as well as different models of financing digital libraries.
